On March 5, 2025, the Lord called Betty by her name and said servant come home.
"Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise." Luke 23:43
Betty Jane Ashton Ealy, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, was born on November 9, 1944, in Independence, Louisiana, to the late Herbert Nazarre Ashton and Mary Davis Ashton. Betty was baptized at an early age by the late Rev. Winston Ashton, and her faith played a central role in her life.
Betty attended Albany-Springfield High School and later furthered her education at Spencer Business College, where she earned an associate's degree in business. Throughout her career, Betty worked diligently, first at Howards Brothers and later as a long-term manager at Walmart, where she retired after many years of dedicated service.
A devoted choir member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist church, then served faithfully as a Sunday School Superintendent, choir member, and a member of the Deaconess Board at Second Zion Missionary Baptist Church until her health began to decline. She later joined True Vine Christian Center under the leadership of Pastor Jhontre Green, where she continued to serve with unwavering dedication.
Betty had many interests that brought joy to her life. She was an extreme fan of crossword puzzles, enjoying the daily challenge they provided. She was also a regular viewer of shows like Family Feud, Wheel of Fortune, The Price is Right, and Wrestling. However, no one could forget her love for The Young and the Restless, particularly her cherished Victor Newman. Betty also loved the outdoors, taking great pleasure in tending to her flowers.
Betty's memory will be cherished by her devoted husband of 57 years, Mr. Sherman Ealy; her four dedicated children: Zonya Wilson (Brian) of Gonzales, LA, Kendra Hardy (Marcus) of Dallas, TX, Sherman "Pete" Ealy (Denise) of Dallas, TX, and Derrick Ealy (Tiffany) of Fresno, TX. One Bonus daughter Netha McDonald (Baton Rouge, LA). She will also be lovingly remembered by her eleven grandchildren: Marquis Hardy, Markell Hardy, LaQuinta Darville, Lawrence Caster III, Porsche' Tureaud, DeQuinton Caster, Kortny Ealy, Jasmine Ealy, Ga'Breal Ealy, Paris Bryant, DeSton Ealy and twelve great-grandchildren.
In addition, Betty is survived by her dear sister, Minister Tina Jordan, three brothers-in-law: Emery Ealy (Patricia), Eddie Ealy (Jannie), and David Ealy (Rita), a host of nieces, nephews, and two godchildren: Timesia Blackmore and Monte Morris. She also leaves behind her lifelong best friend, Lorraine Irvin.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Mary Ashton; two sisters, Delores Wilson and Leotha Morris; and two brothers-in-law, Morris Wilson and Cornelius "Bread" Morris. Her mother and father-in-law; Charles "CJ" Ealy and Lillian Ealy; and one sister-in-law Mary Ealy.
