Helen Hagan-Washington was born on July 3, 1948, and she died peacefully at Clarity Hospice in Baton Rouge, LA, on May 16, 2026. A native of Sorrento and a longtime resident of Gonzales, LA, she was 77 years old and a longtime member of St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church and of her own ministry, the St. Jude Teaching Ministry Prayer Room. She was an ordained Bishop in the United Metropolitan Spiritual Churches of Christ.
Helen is survived by her children; Chris Hagan Sr. and Andrea Hagan, four grandchildren; Chris Hagan Jr., Malcolm Hagan, Javon Hagan, and Kamea Stewart, four great-grandchildren; Chloe Hagan, Noah Hagan, Aubrie Gullage, and Naysa Hagan, nieces; Joyce Scott, Kolanda Scott, and Amber Scott of Syracuse, NY; Kenric Platts & Darek Lomas of Syracuse, NY, along with a host of other nieces, nephews, and cousins, close family members; Carolyn Gradney and Inca Stewart, and a host of clients and church members.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Howard Hagan Jr. and Floyd Washington; her father, Van Sanchez, her mother Margaret Sanchez, her son, Terry Hagan, her brothers; James Sanchez and Whitney Lomas, her aunts; Cecile Anny, Beulah Payne Butler, and Mary Sanchez, and her uncles; John Anny, Samuel Payne, and Carl Lewis Payne.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from 9:00 A.M to 10:30 A.M at St. Theresa of Avila Church, 1022 North Burnside Avenue, Gonzales, Louisiana, with the reading of the obituary, a scripture reading, and a short eulogy before the Mass begins at 11:00 a.m. The Very Rev. Matthew E. McCaughey will be the officiating minister. A private Interment [Immediate Family Only] will conclude at Sacred Heart Cemetery, 38161 Cornerview Road, Gonzales, LA.
