Charles E. Steward Sr., of Galvez, LA, passed away on December 24, 2021 surrounded by his family.

He was born to parents Johnny and Maude Ealy Steward, on August 7, 1942, in Galvez, Louisiana. Charles grew up in Galvez, but frequented Head of Island. This is where he met his wife and lifelong companion, Yvonne Landry. They were united in Holy Matrimony on April 4, 1964. Charles joined the United States Army in 1966, where he served until he was injured and honorably discharged. Throughout his life, Charles worked as a bus driver and custodian with the Ascension Parish School System, a volunteer Firefighter with Galvez Lake Volunteer Fire Department, and served as a Deputy Sheriff with the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office. For the last 21 years of his life, Charles worked at Lamar-Dixon Expo Center before retiring in October of 2021. Even though he served in many different professions, he took the greatest pride in being a Veteran and a Deputy Sheriff. Charles was a great husband, father, and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents Johnny and Maude, sister Amanda Donahue, nephew Ronnie Lands and son Charles E. Steward Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 57 years, Yvonne Steward. He is also survived by his children LaVaughn (Angie) of Daleville, AL, LaTassa Watts of Manvel, TX, Tamara McDaniel (Colin) of Baton Rouge, LA, Nicole Johnson Baker (Leroid) of Baton Rouge, LA, and Ira Troy Williams of Atlanta, GA. As well as a grandson that he raised as a son, Charles E. Steward III and a host of other grandchildren. A special cousin Andrew Ealy and a close friend Johnny Darville.
