Obituary

Charley Stephens, a beloved member of Iberville Christian Center, transitioned to his Heavenly Father on Thursday June 18,2026 at 10;00am.  He was born to late Rev. Lester Stephens Sr. and Joeanna Williams Stephens on April 19, 1937, in Geismar LA.  Charley was baptized by the late Rev Morris Stephens at St. Paul Baptist church.  Charley was joined in marriage to Esther P. Stewart Stephens on December 18, 1965, two children were born to this union; Inger (Geismar) Kelly (DeSoto Texas).  Charley was married to Esther for 60 years.

School Honors

Charley graduated from Prairieville High School in 1957. While in high school, he lettered in basketball and baseball and was the president of his senior class.  He holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Masters in supervision and administration from Southern University.

He served the Ascension Parish School System as an Athletic Director, Basketball and baseball coach and drivers Ed teacher at John F. Kennedy High 1966-1969.  He was also an assistant basketball coach and football coach at East Ascension High School 1969-1972.He became an assistant principal at East Ascension Jr. High School 1972-1977.  In 1977 he became principal at Prairieville Elementary School.  He retired from Marchand Vocational Center after 321/2 years of service.

Charley served on several Boards and Committees: Ascension Parish Industrial Board. Board of directors Ascension Parish Cattlemen's Association, Board of Directors small truck farmers, Board of Directors-  Quad A and President of the Ascension Parish Executive Committee.  In 1994 Charley developed the human resource department for Parish Government and also a Social Service Department.  He served 10 years in Government before retiring.

Charley hobby was raising beef cattle and Louisiana Catahoula Curry dogs before retiring...  Charley has dedicated his life to educating children and making Ascension Parish a better place to live for all residents.

Charley will be missed by his two devoted children Inger Stephens (Geismar) and Kelly Stephens (DeSoto Texas); two brothers Frank Stephens and Lester Stephens Jr.(Brenda) Two sisters, Neomia Bolden and Shirley Jackson 2 Sisters in law; Lillie Stephens and Brenda Stephens and a very special caregiver Patrice Harvey and a host of nieces nephews cousins and friends.

Charley was preceded in death by his wife Esther, by his parents Rev Lester and Joeanna Stephens and two brothers Johnnie Stevenson and Mathew L. Stephens
