Donovan Rodriguez Travis Carter was born on October 21, 1974 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to the parentage of Donald L. Carter and Terri Williams Carter Davenport. He departed this life on Monday, September 14, 2020 at Lake Ascension Hospital in Gonzales, LA. He was baptized at an early age at Little Zion Baptist Church in Gonzales, LA by the late Rev. Charles Bell Jr.

Donovan was affectionately called "Donnie." He loved God, loved people, and was always willing to help anyone who needed it. He never met a stranger. Donnie was a graduate of East Ascension High School Class of 1993. There he was voted Best Dressed and that carried on throughout his life. His stylish flare and unique way of putting designs and colors together always made a statement. Later he attended D'Jays School of Cosmetology where he mastered the profession of hair stylist and barber. He had a God given talent and could make anyone who sat in his chair look nice. Decorating was another one of his talents that he excelled in.

He moved to Birmingham, Alabama several years ago and made an impression on everyone he encountered. Donnie worked at Dinky's House of Style and In Tha Cut Salon. He was a member of The First Baptist Kingston Church under the leadership of Pastor T.N. Miller. He joined the Disciples for Christ under the direction of Minister Prince Yelder and The Birmingham Mass Community Choir under the direction of Mrs. Eloise Gafrey. Donovan traveled to numerous states singing and praising which was a part of his ministry and always lifting up and giving you a word from God.

He moved back to Louisiana in June 2019 and restored his membership at St. Paul Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Lauthaught Delaney. He was part of the music ministry and choir. Donnie was employed by the Lawson-Rollins Purple Shield Funeral Home, which he truly loved.

Donovan leaves to cherish his memories with his loving mother Terri Williams Carter Davenport (Leroy), his loving father Donald Lee Carter (Cheryl), one sister Deanza Carter-Lane (Lakeith), one step-brother Cedric Raven (Marie), one step-sister Tylea Davenport, one niece Khloe Lane, and 2 nephews Jase Lane and Zewaun "Buster" Raven. Aunts include Janice, Gwen, Elizabeth, Elouise, Marie, Mary, Antis, Susie, Cynthia, Marguerite, and Stacey. Uncles include Chris, Sheldon, Conway, and Edward. Three special cousins Stephanie, Angela, and Kendra. Also special friends from Birmingham, Alabama Janice Williams, Eric White, Pat Woods, Tremecka Richardson and so many more.

Donovan was preceded in death by his godparents Ronald Carter and Charlyn Robertson, his grandparents Arthur & Carrie Carter, Evelyn Williams, and Robert Wilson. Preceded by uncles Michael, Ronald, Arthur Jr., Atwood Sr., Jesse, Edward and aunts Lillie and Lucinda. Cousins include Joe, O'neil, Tara, Peter June, Roger and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the overwhelming amount of love shown to them during their moment of bereavement. No act of kindness has gone unnoticed, and a more formal thank you will be done at a later date.
