Obituary

Esther Stewart Stephens, a beloved member of Iberville Christian Center, transitioned to her Heavenly Father on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 9:50 pm.  She was born to the late

Rev. Lester Stewart and the late Esther Jones Stewart on May 27, 1939, in Smoke Bend, Louisiana. At age seven, Esther was baptized by her father (Rev. Lester Stewart) in the Mississippi River.

December 18, 1965, Esther was joined in marriage to Charley Stephens, and two children were born to this union: Inger (Geismar, LA), Kelly (DeSoto, Texas). Charley and Esther have been married for sixty (60) years.

Esther worked 32 1/2 years as an educator for Ascension Parish. During her time as an educator she traveled the state as a Beta Club Sponsor.

Esther was the first secretary for the Geismar Volunteer Fire Department, as well as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary.  After retiring, Esther did volunteer work with the Ascension Parish Sheriff Office and Senior Friends for St. Elizabeth Hospital. She was a faithful member of the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association (AP).

Esther will be missed by her husband of 60 years, Charley Stephens; two devoted children, Inger Stephens (Geismar, LA) and Kelly Stephens (Desoto,Texas); two brothers-in-law, Frank Stephens and Lester Stephens, Jr.(Brenda), four sisters-in-law, Margaret Stewart (Chicago, Illinois), Neomia Bolden, Shirley Jackson, and Lillie Stephens all of Geismar, Louisiana; one nephew Paul Stewart (Chicago, Illinois), one high school classmate and friend, Audrey Price, and her very special personal caregiver Patrice Harvey and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

Esther was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Lester and Esther Stewart, her brother, Lester Paul Stewart, Jr., her father and mother-in-law, Rev. Lester and JoAnn Stephen
