Gloria Dean Jones Marcell

A time to be born, Gloria Dean Jones Marcell was born June 2, 1938 in Hobart, LA to the late Porter and Ollie B. Jones. She was the oldest child born to this union. A time to die, Gloria transitioned peacefully in her home on November 14, 2025 with her three children present at her bedside.

She was baptized at an early age at the True Light BC in Prairieville, LA.  She joined the Mt. Calvary BC with her husband after marriage in 1958.  In 1994, she transferred her membership to the Mt. Gillion BC in Prairieville, LA under the leadership of her husband, Rev. John Marcell. In 2014 she transferred her membership to the First Pilgrim Calvary MBC where she served as a faithful deaconess until her demise.

She graduated as the Valedictorian from Prairieville HS in 1957. She received a diploma for Business Administration from Spencer College, Baton Rouge, LA; she was a certified Medical Transcriptionist and was a member in the American Association for Medical Transcription.  She worked in the Medical Records department at the Gillis Long Hansen Disease Center in Carville, LA from August 1970 until her retirement in January 1995. She was a member of the Eastern Stars, American Legion Women Auxiliary, the Geismar Volunteers Fire Department and AARP.

A time to love, Gloria was joined in Holy Matrimony on April 6, 1958  to John Marcell where she remained a faithful and loving wife for 55 years.  To this union four children were born: Joan Devonia, Vinnie Nell, Jerome Chester and Glen Dale. She was a kind and caring person to all she came in contact with. She enjoyed sewing, traveling and spending time with her family and friends.

She leaves to cherish her memories her children, Vinnie Marcell, Jerome Marcell (Kerrin Chrecien, friend) and Glen Marcell all of Geismar, LA; her grandchildren: Tony (Lakeisha) Lewis, Cypress, TX, Alvin (Nicole) Lewis, Geismar, LA,  LaRhonda Marcell, Geismar, LA, Ashley Marcell, Gonzales, LA, Grant Marcell, Fort Worth, TX, Gabrielle Marcell, Geismar, LA, Joshua Marcell, Geismar, LA and Jordan Marcell, Brooklyn, NY;  seven great grandkids: Toni Lewis,  Alvin "Trell" Lewis, Tyler Lewis, Cameron Marcell, Aaliyah Lewis, Kyrielle Thompson and Cazaria Chanel Marcell; one sister: Catherine Landreaux, Gonzales, LA; a close cousin: Gwendolyn Smith, Daly City, CA;  a  daughter-in-law: Grace Marcell; a devoted friend: Ms. Willie Mae Thompson; and a host of nieces, nephews cousins,  and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Rev. John Marcell, daughter: Joan Devonia Lewis, her parents: Porter and Ollie B. Jones, one sister: Rosa Lee Moore, three brothers: Ronald Bringier, Ralph Jones and Lawrence Ray Jones, and her grandparents: Albert and Lucinda Jones.
