On Friday, February 7, 2025, at Our Lady of the Lake Ascension, Joann Demetrice Brown
transitioned to eternal rest surrounded by her cherished family. Her children, grandchildren,
and family were her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment.
In White Castle, Louisiana, Joann was born on January 8, 1953 to the parentage of Clarence
Brown Sr. and Beatrice Major Brown. She was a life-long resident of Carville, Louisiana. Joann
began her faith walk at an early age at St. Gabriel Catholic Church where she was baptized. On
the profession of her faith, Joann recently dedicated her life to Christ and joined the Mt. Bethel
Church under Pastor David Lodge.
Joann attended Sunshine High School Class of 1971. She was employed for 10 years in
Environmental Services at Gillis Long Hansen Disease Center in Carville, Louisiana. Joann also
provided 7 years of dedicated service at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales, Louisiana. She will
be remembered as selfless, outspoken and hilarious. Her fondest moments were spent outside
with her beloved children and grandchildren enjoying family cook outs.
She was a loving mother to the end, leaving her family with instructions to continue to care for
one another. Her memories will live on in her 3 children: daughters, Felicia Battley (Carville,
LA), Latonya Brown (Sorrento, LA) and son, Leonard Paul Hillard (Gonzales, LA). Brother, Willie
Brown and wife Gloria (Baton Rouge, LA). She was the proud grandmother of 7 grandchildren:
Devin, Mya, Ja'Tory, Le'Khai, Landon, Quan and Londyn. 5 great grandchildren; Rowen,
Daenerys, Camden, Sevyn and Julii Rose. 3 God Children; April Jordan, Broderick Jackson and
Lakeia Gollop. Joann will be remembered by a host of nieces and nephews including her
devoted niece, Shirley McMeller, a sisterly cousin, Maryann Almonte Crespo, Special Friends
including Jerry Morris, Dana and Randy Madere, Lynette Jordan, Sunny Green Sr., Janice Bobo,
James Williams Sr. and a bonus daughter, Jasmine Clark Brown.
She is now in heaven joined with a host of her loving family members to include her parents,
Clarence and Beatrice Brown, Brother, Clarence Brown Jr, Sister, Annie Mae Gaines, Nephews
Leonard Paul Gaines and Edward Bo Gaines, Godchild, Antonio "TJ" Crespo and maternal and
paternal grandparents.
