If you think a church usher is just someone who greets you at the door and leads you to your seat, you're only half right. Ushering is a calling, an important part of any worship service, and ushers must be seriously devoted to their work.

These words best describe Joseph Bush Williams and his dedication to the Usher Ministry. He served on the Usher Board with every church home he was blessed to fellowship with.

Joseph Bush Williams affectionately known as "Papa Joe" was born November 24, 1949 in Gonzalez, Louisiana to the late Joseph Bush and Annie B. Williams. On October 6, 2019, the Good Lord closed Joseph's eyes and called him home.

At an early age, Reverend Reddish Johnson of Sorrento, Louisiana baptized Joseph; he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior. Joseph resided in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and was a faithful member of 2 ^nd Mt. Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Robert London. He was a member of the Mt. Calvary Usher Board.

Joseph attended St. Amant High School and later began a career as an Asphalt Machine Operator for Boh Brothers Company in Kenner, Louisiana. He met and married the love of his life Brenda Kendrick. From this union, three children were born.

After he was married, Joseph moved his family to Los Angeles, California. He worked in construction and attended Christ Memorial Christian Church under the leadership of Reverend C. L. Kennedy.

His bright smile, kind words, and knack for making one laugh warmed the hearts of all who knew and met him. He was well loved and respected by family, friends, and neighbors. His charming and polite ways complimented his unique style of being a sharp dresser.

Family was everything to Joseph. He loved going to church on Sundays and visiting family and friends. He had a passion for dancing, listening to blues music, and never could refuse a good game of cards or dominoes.

His parents, Joseph Bush and Annie B. Williams, sister Christopher Ann, brothers Alton Ray, Robert James, and John Hot Rod Williams preceded Joseph in death. He leaves to cherish his memories four children, Dr. Angela Williams (Willie), Joseph Bush Williams Jr. (Rhonda), Travis Williams, Joseph Hot Rod Williams (Appolonia), seven grandchildren Dajonae, Jayde, Paris, Kaliyah, Jayce, J'Aveon, and King, one sister Sharon Mable Davis, one brother Leon Taylor Williams (Barbara), a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends, and long term dedicated companion, Hattie House and dear friend Rosetta Hughley.
