On Thursday, February 24, 2022 Larry Sylvester Cola, Sr. departed this life at his residence in Belle Rose, Louisiana at 9:47am. His soul winged its flight form his physical world of sorrow to eternal rest. He was 78 years old.
Larry was born on October 4, 1943 to the late Thomas "Shemeat" Cola, Jr. and Mary Louise Exnicious Cola in Bertrandville, Louisiana in Assumption Parish.
He was baptized at St. Charles Baptist Church by the late Reverend Percy Truehill.
Bro. Cola received his education in the Assumption Parish School System at W.H. Reed Elementary and High School. He also attended Nicholls State University and received an Associate of Science degree. Bro. Cola served in the United State Army in Vietnam from 1965 to 1968 and was honorably discharged. He was honored on February 15, 2022 by Bridgeway Health Care and Hospice for being an outstanding veteran.
Bro. Cola was a Police Officer for Assumption Parish for many years and also an engineer for Chervon Texaco.
Bro. Cola was a member of the American Legion Post La. 0401.
He was married to Melinda Larkins Cola on January 14, 2017. He leaves to cherish and reflect on his memories: a loving, caring and faithful wife Melinda, one son: Larry Syvester Cola, Jr. and one daughter: Lowana Q. Cola: 11 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; two brothers: David (Carla) and Jason Cola, Sr. of Newnan Georgia; three sisters: Dionne Cola, Kathleen C. Webster of Oakland, California, Monica C. Hilton (William) of Fayetteville, North Carolina; one brother in law, Leneal Bridges, one Godchild: Allegra Pugh; two step-children: Jalacie Larkins Johnson and Jeremiah A. Jones, Sr., a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Cola, Jr. brothers and sisters: John, Wesley, Harvey, Kenneth, Rosemond, Roslyn and Karen; step-son: Nehemiah Jones, niece: Alanna Pugh Baily, nephew: Adam Rudell Pugh.
