Life Story

LaTosha Lavette Robinson Smith was born on June 11, 1978 to Mildred Dunbar Brooks and Jerome Robinson. She answered her Heavenly Father's call on March 18, 2026.

LaTosha, affectionately known as Tosha, was reared in Geismar, LA and was a resident of Gonzales, LA.   She was blessed to be surrounded by a family built on love and faith.  LaTosha was baptized by the late Rev. Robert Brown at Progressive Baptist Church (Dutchtown, LA).  She and her family later joined the Word of Life Christian Center, under the leadership of Apostle Leroy Thompson, Sr.

LaTosha was a 1996 graduate of East Ascension High School. She later enrolled at Southeastern University and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree on December 14, 2002.    Tosha worked as a cashier at LeBlanc's Payless Food Stores and later as the Store Manager at Leggs Hanes Bali at Tanger Mall.  Her professional journey also included roles at Mr. Payroll, United States Post Office, Capital One Bank, Eatel, Cabellas, and Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office.  Most recently, she was the Vice President of Operations at Momentum Building Services.  She was a beloved coworker, known for her warm spirit and strong work ethic, which left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.

LaTosha met the love of her life, Darryl Leon Smith, Jr., and entered into holy matrimony on July 28, 2001. To their blissful union, three beautiful children were born: Taiylor Dionne, Harper Maree, and Chayse Leon.  Her husband and children were the apple of her eye, and she found great joy and purpose in caring for her family. Spending time with her family, friends, and loved ones was very important to Tosha.

In February 2013, Rev. Smith was installed as the Pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church (Donaldsonville, LA), where Sis. Smith served as the First Lady.  Sis. Smith was known as a caring and compassionate First Lady and was instrumental in organizing the MTZ Kids Ministry and leading the annual Thanksgiving Drive. She also served in the Beautification Ministry, Sisters in Unity, and was recently chosen as the President of the Women's Department.

Tosha thoroughly enjoyed all sports, so much that she played on East Ascension's Lady Spartan Basketball team, was on a Women's semi-professional football team (the Baton Rouge Wildcats) and a softball team (the Geaux Gettas). Most afternoons and weekends were spent on the baseball and softball fields, where she was a supportive and loud fan! She enjoyed riding motorbikes and even participated in an Adult Ladies Class at All About Dance.  Tosha was voted as "Most Spirited and Class Clown" by her Senior Class at EA, titles that were very fitting, as she was a lover of life, people, and good times. Her infectious laugh had a way of lighting up every room she entered.  Tosha never met a stranger and was always willing to help and motivate anyone, in any way she could.

LaTosha leaves to cherish her treasured memory, her husband of almost 25 years, Pastor Darryl Leon Smith, Jr., three children, Taiylor Dionne, Harper Maree, and Chayse Leon; a loving mother, Mildred D. Brooks; father, Jerome Robinson; 4 siblings, Monica Dennis (Tyson), Damien Dunbar (Wykeitha), Jerome Robinson, and Jeremy Robinson; a devoted mother-in-love, Cassandra Delaney Smith; sister-in-love, D'Andra L. Smith (Brandon, Sr.); Godparents, Calvin and Ruthie Lewis; eight aunts, seven uncles; nieces, Alyssa Dennis, Bailey  and Bra'Nae Smith, Kelsea Dunbar; nephews, Tazarian Dunbar, Damien Dunbar, and Brandon Smith, Jr.; Godchildren, Kiyah Delaney, Roger Jackson, Talaya White, and Bryson Dennis; and a host of cousins, relatives, and friends.

LaTosha was greeted in Heaven by her grandparents, Joseph and Elvira Dunbar, Herman and Inez Robinson; nephew and godson, Jason Dennis; father-in-love Darryl L. Smith, Sr., and a host of cousins and relatives.

To know Tosha was to love her.  Her sweet and selfless spirit will continue to live on in all who loved her and carry her in their hearts.  Until we meet her again, let's "Love Like LaTosha".
