Obituary

Mickel West was born July 8,1944 in New Orleans, LA to the late Nick West Sr. and Lorenza Pierre. He attended school in the Ascension Parish School District. He was raised with his "sister" (cousin) Eula Mae by their beloved grandmother, Cecile.

After high school Mickel married Patricia and to this union there were 4 children.(Vick, Kevin, Elanda and Shauna) During this time he worked as a truck driver and delivered mobile homes throughout Ascension and St. James parishes.

Yearning for a change he moved his family and extended family to San Francisco in 1970 adding 3 more children and their mother Orelia to his family tree. (Roderick, Dwight and Candace)

After arriving in San Francisco he worked for ABM Janitorial Service for several years.  However, cars were his passion and everyone knew it. One day he met Walter Whitney who owned an automotive shop and they started working together. While working at the shop, he trained two of his sons Kevin and Roderick.  Together they helped family and friends stay on the road.

In 1972 he met  Henry Etta who would become the love of his life and in 1991 they relocated to Nashville, TN .  The two were joined in marriage in 1999, adding more children to his family tree (Linda, Joannetta, Kenneth and Annette).

While in Nashville Mickel worked as a Lock and Dam Equipment Mechanic for the Corps of Engineers from 1991 until his retirement in 2017. He was the  all around go to person for just about everything from car repairs to plumbing, electrical, etc. Mickel was an avid sports fan and loved the New Orleans Saints, Oakland Raiders (when he lived San Francisco) and most recently the Tennessee Titans.

The Lord summoned Mickel home to receive his crown of righteousness on December 18, 2019. He leaves behind to cherish his memories: his wife Henry Jones-West; Children: Vick (Sirron) of Sacramento, CA, Elanda Seventral of Las Vegas, NV, Shauna and Candace of Oakland, CA, Roderick of San Francisco, CA, Dwight of Vallejo, CA, Linda, Joannetta and Kenneth of Nashville, TN; Brothers: Cornell (Joy), Gregory (Sentrell), Kevin (Valencia) and Nick (Ida) of New Orleans, LA; Sisters: Betty (Jimmy) of Jackson, MS, Linda of San Francisco, CA and Rosalind of New Orleans, LA, 2 God-daughters: Jayme and Jamila; 18 grandchildren,11 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, his best friend Johnnie Hayes (wife Diedra), and friends.

Mickel was preceded in death by his parents Nick West Sr. and Lorenza Pierre, son Kevin, daughter Annette, brothers Rogers, Ronald, Purnell and sister Pamela.

Mickel didn 't say much but his actions spoke very loud. He was a man of many talents and loved his family and friends. He was always ready to help; whether you needed an electrician, plumber, carpenter and of course a car mechanic he was your MAN. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed by all who crossed his path.
