Oscar Allen Rollins was born in Gonzales Louisiana on December 12, 1935. He passed away on December 21, 2010, at 9:14 am at his residence in Gonzales with his wife, children, grandchildren and pastor by his side. He was baptized at an early age at St. Paul Baptist Church in Duplessis, Louisiana. Oscar recently celebrated his 75th birthday with his family. Oscar was an active member of the church community, and later became a member of First Pilgrim Calvary Baptist Church Geismar, Louisiana.

He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving and devoted wife of 53 years, Annie T. Rollins, one son and daughter in-law Elywin Allen Rollins (Denise); two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna R. Kemp (Clifford), JoAnn R. Pressey (Franklin); eight grandchildren, Donavon G. Moore, Keirston E. Daniel, and Cydni B. Kemp, Clifford and Cephas Kemp, Terrance, Maurice, and Markus Pressey; one brother and sister in-law Thomas Boyd Jr., (Patricia); three sisters in-law, Cora T. Marcell, Rose Thompson and Clara T. Joseph; three brothers in-law, Dave Thompson Jr., Emory Thompson, Andrew Thompson; four godchildren, Mel Bush, Tanya M. Glover, Todd Thompson, and Tyra Glover; as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

Oscar served in the United States Army for over 20 years, and went on to work at PCS Nitrogen Chemical Plant for 18 years. He was the co-owner and manager of Lawson-Rollins Purple Shield Funeral Home Inc. of Gonzales, La, where he was admired and respected by his colleagues.

As an active member of his state and community, Oscar was appointed by the Governor of Louisiana to the Louisiana State Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers where he served for (6) six years in the capacity of Secretary and his recent appointment as Vice President until his death. Oscar was the President of the Louisiana Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association and a member of the National, State, and Local Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association. He was also the past Commander of the American Legion Post #557, in Gonzales, Louisiana.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosa Boyd, step father Thomas Boyd, Grandmother Mary Brown, step-grandfather George Brown, brothers Louis Alexander and Solomon Boyd.

Oscar's deep commitment to his family, community, and country made him a friend to many and a special teacher and mentor to a select few. Oscar could always be depended upon to offer advice and wisdom when needed, but he was mostly known for his generosity. He will be truly missed, though we know his spirit lives on in everyone he has touched along his journey.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 28, 2010, at Lawson - Rollins Purple Shield Funeral Home from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm and then on Thursday, December 29, 2010, from 10:00 am until funeral service at 11:00 at First Pilgrim Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.
