Penny Denise Dominick Jones was born on October 20, 1970 as a twin, which she was the youngest and the baby of 8 girls to the parentage of the late Shirly Joseph Chatman and the late Reverend Edward Dominick, Sr. in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Penny departed her earthly life on July 12, 2022 at her residence in Sorrento, Louisiana when she heard the voice of her Master saying come unto me all ye that labour and heavy laden and I will give you rest.
Penny was baptized at an early age at the Mount Triumph Baptist Church by the late Reverend Shirley O. Jones in Donaldsonville, LA. She later joined the Mount Zion Baptist Church pastored by the late Reverend Felton C. Ceasar where she began singing in the Gospel Pearls then to the Junior Choir and she continued her Christian walk and singing. She became a very faithful member of the Hopeful Triumph Baptist Church under Pastor Sydney Tobias whom she loved dearly. She sang in many groups, such as Joel Jones and 3MC, Jay East & Power, Vision of Faith, Anthony Nelson & the Overcomers, it just didn't stop there, she fellowshipped and did praise and worship at True Light Worship Center (Bishop Adrian Claiborne), House of God (Pastor James Dorsey), went all around singing for weddings, funerals, musicals, etc. She had a true passion and a gift from God that she used to the fullest and she began calling herself the Gospel Soloist.
She was educated in the public school system and a graduate of Donaldsonville High School Class of 1988 and furthered her education by attending Grambling State University in 1992. She had a great love for the Grambling Tigers. Penny has given 29 years of service to the Ascension Parish School system as a Paraprofessional, her greatest ability was to assist all youths in their development.
Penny was united in Holy Matrimony on November 19, 1993 to David K. Jones. Penny and David formed an indivisible and loving union and was blessed with the birth of a son, David Leon Keith Jones and was also a dedicated Mother to Syles Paige Jones, Duran Willis Jones and Damon Paul Jones.
Penny leaves to cherish precious memories: A loving and caring husband; David K. Jones, one daughter Syles Paige Jones of Hillaryville, LA. Three sons, Durand Willis Jones of San Antonio, TX, Damon Paul (Morgan) Jones of Hillaryville, LA and David Leon Keith Jones of Sorrento, LA. Nine lovely sisters, Pamela Joseph Carey of Baton Rouge, LA, Andrea Joseph of New Orleans, LA, Enga Chatman of Long Beach, CA, Erika (Phillip) Gaines of Dacula, GA, Terri Green, Yolanda Dominick Garrison, Polly (Terrence) Young of Gonzales, LA, Connie Dominick of Chicago, IL and Delores (Charles) O'Bear of White Castle, LA, One brother, Edward Dominick, Jr of Hazelhurst, MS, one Aunt, Marguerite Washington of Tinley Park, IL, one Uncle, James Smith, two sisters in law, Mary Thompson of Missouri, TX and Zadie Jones Williams of Hillaryville, LA, Three grandkids whom she loved very much Marlee Vialva, Adreanna and Amaura Jones, one Godmother, Dr. Bridget Octave, Godfather James Smith, one godchild, Tyriel Jacole Dominick. A devoted #1 best friend Bryan Shaw, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Shirley Joseph Chatman and Reverend Edward Dominick, Maternal grandparents, Clarence and Henrietta Joseph, Paternal grandparents, Kelly and Elma Dominick, one sister, Cynthia Dominick, one brother, Charles Dominick, mother in law Ms. Anna Jones.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the overwhelming amount of love shown to them during their moment of bereavement. No act of kindness has gone unnoticed, and a more formal thank you will be done at a later date.
