Richard Miles Jr., affectionately known to family and friends as "Diggy," "Ricky Dicky," and simply "Rick," was born on September 10, 1961, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late Richard Sr. and Hazel Cutno Miles. On Thursday, April 23, 2026, he peacefully answered the Master's call and entered eternal rest at Baton Rouge General Hospital at the age of 64.

Richard was baptized at an early age by Rev. Clarence Pedescleaux at New Hopeful Baptist Church in Darrow, Louisiana. His faith remained an important part of his life, and he faithfully served as a Deacon at True Light Worship Center in Gonzales, Louisiana, for 15 years until his passing.

Rick graduated from East Ascension High School in 1979 and dedicated over 30 years of service as a Longshoreman at Burnside Terminal before retiring. He was a hardworking and dependable man who took pride in providing for and loving his family.

On April 11, 1997, Rick married the love of his life and soulmate, Sybil Miles. Together, they built a beautiful family rooted in love, laughter, and togetherness. Rick treasured his role as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with those he loved most.

Rick had a deep love for sports and outdoor activities. For more than 25 years, he poured his heart into coaching local youth with the Blue Marlins, Redskins, and Eastside Raiders little league teams, leaving a lasting impact on countless young lives in the community. He was also a proud member of the Boogie Nights softball team. Outside of sports, fishing and deer hunting were among his greatest passions. And anyone who knew Rick knew his love for the Dallas Cowboys ran deep.

Rick was known for his warm heart, generous spirit, and unforgettable presence. He had a way of making people laugh, feel welcomed, and feel loved. His kindness, wisdom, and quiet strength touched many lives, and the love he gave so freely will continue to live on through the family and friends he cherished. His heart and spirit will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories his devoted wife, Sybil Miles; his loving mother, Hazel Miles; his six children, Jermaine (Honey) of Geismar, LA, Brandon (Brandilyn) of St. Gabriel, LA, Tarsha (Kem) and Gerard (Mary-Margaret), both of Baton Rouge, LA, Solomon of Gonzales, LA, and Genea of Plano, TX; his eight grandchildren, Macie, Derek, Mason, Dalanah, Brandon Jr., Brayleigh, Brayden, and Kendee; one great-grandchild, Kaison; and his four siblings, Marilyn of Zachary, LA, Bridget (Kenneth) of Gonzales, LA, Tyrone (Kay), and Kevin of Baton Rouge, LA.

He also leaves to mourn his passing his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Monica, Isaac (Sondia), Micheal (Renee), Hubert (Beverly), all of Gonzales, LA, Leana of Donaldsonville, LA, and Irvin of Belle Rose, LA; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.

Rick also leaves behind a devoted friend, Alvin Claiborne, Sr., and special friends Leroy Brown, Michael Armstrong, and Spencer Harvey. He held a deep love and reverence for Bishop Adrien Claiborne, whom he loved as a son, brother, and friend. Rick was immensely proud of the mighty man of God Bishop had become, and his love and admiration for him were unwavering and everlasting.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Miles, Sr.; two brothers, Reginal Miles, Sr. and Gerald Miles; one sister, Geraldine Miles; his grandparents Elnora Moran Miles, Thomas Miles, Sr., Leola-Irvin Cutno and Lawrence Cutno, Sr;. and his Godmother, Yvonne Cutno Fowler.

Though Rick's earthly presence will be greatly missed, his legacy of love, faith, laughter, and devotion will live on for generations to come.
