Shelly "Slick" Christy Life and Legacy

July 9, 1941 - August 1, 2023

His Life

On July 9, 1941, Everlina Bedney and Leo Christy welcomed their only son, Shelly Christy. Shelly was a native and resident of Prairieville, LA, where he attended Prairieville High School. For the majority of his adulthood Shelly worked daily to provide for his family, working as a fence contractor and cement finisher, where he was affectionately given the nickname "Slick". Shelly attended church at Mt. Gillion Baptist Church, where he was baptized.

Legacy

Shelly Christy shared 63 beautiful, loving years of his life with his wife, Shirley Williams-Christy. They were blessed with 6 children, Gloria Kelly-Burns; Charlotte (Ronald) Christy-Turner; Sheldon (Elvie) Christy, Sr.; Timothy (Kimbie) Christy; Jennifer Christy-Moses; Jacklyn Christy, and a bonus son, Chris (Kathy) Hall. This blessing gifted Shelly and Shirley with 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandbabies whom he cherished, loved and protected. Shelly had a very loving relationship with his only sister, Clara (Charles) Christy-Woodard, his two nieces and one nephew.

His Extended Family

Shelly's grandparents raised him as their own, alongside his aunts and uncles, Linda Nash, Samuel York and the late, Eddie York, Jr. who he considered his siblings. An extended family is defined as a family that extends beyond the nuclear family of parents and their children to include aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins or other relatives, all living nearby or in the same household. As for his extended family he adored them as much as they adored him.

His extended family includes his sisters-in-laws; late, Theresa Sullivan; Rita (Pastor Clifton) Sullivan-Sanford; and brothers-in-laws; Thomas Rounds, and Robert Sullivan, Jr. Shelly also had a very special bond with his only living uncle, Mr. Larry Christy.

Although we may mourn his passing, today we celebrate the life Shelly "Slick" Christy lived here on earth, and trust in the knowledge that he is celebrating in heaven with his mother and father, Everlina Bedney, and Leo Christy; his son, Sheldon Christy, Sr.; Daughter, Jacklyn Christy; Eddie York, Jr.; Charles Woodard, and Theresa Sullivan.
