Shirley Ashton Thompson departed this life for eternal rest and everlasting life on May 5, 2015 at 3:11 pm surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 27, 1945 to the Union of Schofield Ashton and Helen Williams. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Wilbert Thompson on November 3, 1962. To that union was born 2 sons, Christopher Thompson Sr. (Antoinette), Terrell Thompson (Nodgela) and a stepdaughter, Wilma Carter (Dennis). She worked at Gillis Long Hospital for 26 years until retirement.She leaves to cherish her loving husband of 52 years, Wilbert; her 2 sons, Christopher and Terrell and their wives; 2 brothers, Charles Ashton and Schofield Ashton (Cynthia) of Gonzales; 2 sisters, Joann Glover (Harry), Gonzales, and Ophelia Dudley (Calvin), Springfield; 4 brothers-in-law, Willie Thompson, Geismar, Roy Thompson (Bernice), June Thompson (Sophie) and Leroy Thompson (Carolyn), all of Gonzales; 1 sister-in-law, Janella Bell (Percy); 7 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews and 4 God children. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters-in-law and 1 brother-in-law. There will be a visitation Monday, May 11, 2015 at New Beginning Word Fellowship 39308 West Worthy Road Gonzales, La. from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Funeral Service is Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 11:00am at New Beginning. Burial in Third Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Maurepas, La.
