Il Timothy 4:7-8: "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."
Sis. Jessie Lee Harris Batiste was born to the late Olivia Elam Ervin on January 25, 1932. She departed this life peacefully at home on September 12, 2026.
Sis. Jessie was a native of Gonzales, Louisiana. She graduated from Lowery Training School in Donaldsonville in 1951. Sis. Jessie was employed in the Dietary Department at East Ascension Hospital in Gonzales.
Sis. Jessie was baptized at an early age by the late Rev. Abe Smith. Continued fellowship under the leadership of the late Rev. Rayborn. Later, God placed her under the service of Pastor Clarence Stephens, a man sent by God who watched over her soul until God called her home.
Sis. Jessie faithfully served as an usher for many years and continued in that role until her passing. She often ministered to the sick and those in need. Independent, self-sufficient, soft-spoken, and kind, yet she was never afraid to speak her mind.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Thomas Brown, her adopted son; two nieces, Neomia Ervin and Rebecca Ervin; one great-niece, Miya Ervin-Williams; two nephews, Harrison Ervin and Clinton Landry; her sister-in-law, Diane Harris; five stepdaughters, Annie Mae, Mary Emerson, Grace Thomas, Sheila Batiste, and Wanda (Nelson) Simmons; two stepsons, Edward (Darlene) and Ernest (Kindra) Hillard; a host of grandchildren; and her New St. John Fellowship church family.
Sis Jessie Lee was preceded in death by her two brothers, Elray and Clifton Ervin; her nephew, Elray Jr.; her cousin Joseph Elam; her two husbands, Herman Harris and Morris Batiste; and her stepdaughter, Tonoticha Merrill.
