Terrell Headd, affectionately known by many as "Head," was born on August 12, 1953, at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, to his parents Gertrude Pierce and John Headd. He grew up surrounded by the vibrant energy and deep cultural roots of Gonzales, a city that remained close to his heart throughout his life.

He began his education in the Ascension Parish School District. At the age of 16, after the passing of his mother, Terrell relocated to Chicago. While living in Chicago, Terrell attended and completed high school as a proud graduate of James H. Bowen High School, Class of 1972.

In 1973, Terrell answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. He served with dignity, discipline, and unwavering commitment to national defense. During his service, he was awarded the Sharpshooter Medal, a testament to his focus, skill, and dedication. Terrell was honorably discharged on August 23, 1974, having served with pride and honor.

In 1978, Terrell returned to his beloved Louisiana, bringing with him not only experiences from his time away but also the same warmth, charm, and wit that endeared him to everyone he met. Known for his laid-back demeanor and big heart, he was a person who valued connection, music, and movement.

He was also known to some as "Fish," a nickname that was more than just a playful title. It was a reflection of his deep love for swimming. He could often be found at the local recreation center, enjoying time in the water, one of his favorite pastimes.

Swimming wasn't just a sport to him; it was a ritual, a joy, and a peaceful escape. In addition to his many interests, he also spoke fluent Spanish, a skill that reflected his curiosity, cultural awareness, and ability to connect with a wide range of people.

Terrell was also musically gifted, with a deep love for the saxophone. His passion for music echoed through the notes he played, whether in solitude or among family and friends. His musical spirit, like his personality, was soulful, expressive, and unforgettable. To know Terrell was to know someone steady and sincere. Someone who moved at his own rhythm, valued simple pleasures, and made a lasting impact through kindness, laughter and music. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

On July 7, 2025, Terrell passed away peacefully in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, music, and love that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

He leaves to mourn two loving aunts, Geraldine Gray of Gonzales and Ethel Watson of Chicago, along with a host of cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude Pierce and John Headd, He carried their memory with him always, honoring their legacy in the way he lived, loved, and gave of himself.
