Obituary

Wardell Randolph Irvin, born on October 24, 1954, to the late Randolph and Doretha Thomas Irvin, was the cherished seventh of nine siblings. His roots lay in Hillaryville, LA, though he made Gonzales, LA, his home. At the tender age of 9, he embraced the teachings of Christ at the Hopeful Baptist Church, where the respected Rev. Clarence Pedescleaux baptized him. Later, he dedicated himself as an usher under the loving guidance of Rev. Dr. Sidney J. Tobias, Jr. at The Hopeful Triumph Baptist Church. In 2022, answering a higher calling, he became a Deacon and proudly joined the male chorus, deepening his commitment to his faith.

United in Holy Matrimony on August 16, 1975, Wardell and Beverly shared an extraordinary journey spanning 49 years, filled with love, support, and the joy of family. Their union blessed them with four children, fifteen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, creating a rich legacy of love. His professional journey as a Longshoreman spanned 30 years, followed by a rewarding role as Supervisor at Ascension Parish Public Works. Additionally, he made significant contributions as a Commissioner on The Pontchartrain Levee District, demonstrating his commitment to community service.

Wardell transitioned peacefully at his residence on Thursday, December 19, 2024, surrounded by the warmth and love of his family. He leaves behind a profound legacy, including his devoted wife of 49 years, Beverly J. Irvin; three sons: Tilicuis "Troy" Irvin, Laiq (Bridgette) Irvin, and JaMaar Irvin; one daughter, Krystle Irvin; fifteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three beloved sisters: Louann (Norman) Scott, Sheila Irvin, and Veronica J. Irvin.
