Obituary

Wayne Patterson Weams

February 7, 1961 – July 23, 2025

Wayne Patterson Weams, a beloved son, father, and friend, peacefully departed this life on July 23, 2025 at the age of 64.

Born on February 7, 1961, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Wayne was the cherished son of the late Alco Weams Sr. and Isabell McCastle Weams.

Wayne was baptized at the tender age of six at New Light Baptist Church of Baton Rouge, under the leadership of the late Reverend Isaiah Barnes Sr., beginning a lifelong journey of quiet faith and devotion. He graduated from East Ascension High School in 1979 and went on to attend Southern University in Baton Rouge, where he majored in Criminal Justice.

Wayne's work ethic and love for family began early-he was known to be out in the fields picking berries with his parents before he could barely walk.

Over time, he developed a deep passion for automobiles and became a talented mechanic and auto body technician. His craftsmanship and dedication earned him the respect of all who knew him in the trade. He was devoted fan of antique car shows and rarely missed a chance to admire or discuss classic vehicles.

Wayne also participated in the Special Olympics, proudly representing resilience and joy through his involvement. Above all, he was a loving and dedicated father to his only son, DeMarie Knight (Dominica), who brought immense pride and purpose to his life.

He was known for his gentle presence, quiet wisdom, and contagious laughter. His kindness and humility left a lasting imprint on every life he touched.

Wayne leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted mother, Isabell McCastle Weams, is beloved son, DeMarie Knight, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alco Weams Sr., his brothers, Alco Weams Jr. and Bruce Weams, maternal grandparents Joseph and Edna Scott McCastle, and paternal grandparents Israel and Cornelia Christy Weams.

Waye will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever honored.
